About This Firearm
Approximate Retail Value: $1,000
The Riley Defense RAK-47 is a U.S.-made, semi-automatic AK-pattern rifle chambered in 7.62×39mm. It is designed as a budget-friendly AK with traditional AKM features and compatibility with many standard AK accessories.
Key points:
Barrel: 16.25-inch 4150 nitride-treated barrel.
Receiver: Heat-treated stamped steel receiver.
Internals: Current production models use forged trunnions, bolts, and bolt carriers, replacing the cast trunnions found in some early rifles that drew criticism for durability issues.
Features: Side optics rail, bolt-hold-open safety lever, threaded muzzle, adjustable iron sights, and 30-round magazine compatibility.
Performance: More recent reviews report improved reliability compared with early models, though the rifle still has a mixed reputation because of its initial quality-control problems. Some reviewers have documented thousands of rounds without malfunctions, while others recommend carefully inspecting any used example to ensure it is a newer forged-trunnion model.
