About This Firearm
Approximate Retail Value: $599
The M&P 15-22 is a lightweight .22 LR semi-automatic rifle made by Smith & Wesson, designed to have a similar feel and controls to an AR-15 while using inexpensive .22 LR ammunition.
Caliber: .22 LR
Action: Semi-automatic, blowback-operated
Capacity: Commonly 25 rounds
Weight: About 5 lb, depending on configuration
Construction: Polymer receiver with an aluminum-style handguard on many models
Controls: AR-style safety, magazine release, and charging handle
Uses: Target shooting, recreational shooting, and familiarization with AR-style controls
Main advantage: Relatively low ammunition cost and mild recoil compared with centerfire AR-15s
In short: It’s essentially an AR-style .22 LR rifle—light, low-recoil, and inexpensive to shoot.
